I myself read labels, and I try to strike a balance. I try to cut things that are easy to cut, add little things that are good here and there, etc.

I have found that there are a few little tricks you can use, when looking at packaging and labels, to help you to determine if you are making a healthy decision.

Simply put: If you see a heart on the package you can assume the food is good for you and you can feel good about buying it.
